LE CYCLE: CENTO1 IS “BIKE OF THE YEAR”
Wilier Triestina receives one more award by the readers of the major international cycling magazines.
After the prize Gear of the Year attributed to Izoard by the American Outside Magazine, another important award comes from France. Cento1, the bicycle of the world champion Alessandro Ballan, Damiano Cunego and all their team mates of Lampre Ngc, has been elected Bike of the Year by the renowned magazine Le Cycle.
The selection began from the top-of-the-range road bikes of the 25 most famous brands in the world. Le Cycle’s readers chose Cento1 among their three favourite models. The last choice was left to twelve cyclists, who tested the finalist bikes during three days in Bedoin (France). Cento1 got the highest marks.
This award comes as a further confirmation about the quality of the work done by Wilier Triestina in projecting and improving the carbon monocoque which is now its flagship.

Cento1 is also available in the Di2 version, with the Shimano electronic shifter.

Cento1’s main features
Swing arm integrated design
The Cento1 monocoque carbon rear triangle is a single structural element.
Chainstays and seatstays become part of an integrated and seamless whole, which provides a more responsive ride.
Easy drive system
A new shape and enhanced functionality at the head tube. The Cento1’s head tube is round at the top and squared at the bottom for increased stiffness, working in synthesis with its proprietary fork, the crown of which has been reinforced and likewise squared for increased stiffness. That stiffness enhances steerability, as well as stability when climbing or sprinting out of the saddle.
Integrated Seatpost
The Cento1 boasts an integrated seatpost to be used in conjunction with specially designed seatclamps. A key feature of this system is the internal diameter of the seatmast, making it possible for a qualified mechanic to retro-fit a conventional 31.6mm diameter seatpost by cutting down the seatmast to a more traditional height. Below the top tube, the seat tube takes on a progressively larger diameter for maximum stiffness at the bottom bracket.
Oversize bottom bracket
A new feature of the Cento1 is its integrated bottom bracket design - a Wilier Triestina exclusive. It is a completely universal and “open” design, compatible with all major crank and bottom bracket systems currently on the market. The bottom bracket shell has been enlarged by 39%, increasing lateral stiffness for more efficient power transfer.
46 Ton
For the Cento1, Wilier Triestina has implemented Mitsubishi’s “46 ton” carbon composite, the world’s strongest, most resilient carbon fiber. As the name indicates, this carbon material can withstand forces equal to 46 tons per square millimeter.
Asymmetric rear arms
Another exclusive new feature is the asymmetry of the rear triangle, with the drive side stays differing from the non-drive side stays based on the forces applied to a frame during power transfer, and to better accommodate the movement of the chain in all situations.
Integrated drop-out
Monocoque dropout construction: the rear dropouts are an integrated part of the rear triangle. Even the interface tips of the dropouts, traditionally in aluminum, are part of the monocoque carbon structure. The wall thickness of tubes in this area of the frame have been slightly augmented for increased strength and durability, while preserving the lightweight characteristics of the rear triangle. Tube angles have also been “softened” to dampen road vibrations.
